The Waunakee boys’ soccer team will have a new head coach for the coming season. After Kurt Kliminski’s retirement from coaching last fall, Waunakee’s search for a new coach began.

On Wednesday, the announcement was made that Dave Kettner would take over the duties as Head Coach of the boys’ soccer program.

“The committee was impressed by Dave’s presence, thoughtfulness, ability to direct and relate to student-athletes,” said Waunakee’s Athletic Director Aaron May. “He also presented the committee with a strong understanding of the importance of educationally-based athletics and how he would deliver that message to students, parents, and community members.”

Kettner brings an ample amount of coaching experience to the Warriors. He started coaching in the nineties in Prior Lake, Minnesota, as a goalie coach, and has continued coaching since then, both for club and high school teams.

“Dave has a tremendous amount of experience working in the club soccer setting and the high school soccer setting…” May added. “The committee is confident that Dave will be able to continue the building process started by Coach Kliminski and take the program to new heights while maintaining a committee to developing the young men of Waunakee.”

Kettner will have his work cut out for him, taking over for a Waunakee program that finished sixth in the Badger North in 2017, and last had a winning season was in 2015.

“I am committed to creating a fun, challenging and safe environment that encourages the growth and development our student-athletes.” Kettner said. “I want to grow and strengthen our program now and into the future.”
